Amazon To Make Five Seasons Of New Lord Of The Rings TV Show

Amazon has finally validated the rumors. They will be making five seasons of a brand new Lord of the Rings TV show.

The shopping giant went head-to-head in a battle with competitors Netflix and HBO for the rights to J.R.R. Tolkien’s book series Lord of the Rings.

Amazon studios walked away with the rights for a a cool $250-million. Production is slated to begin sometime within the next two years.

Fans of the original movies are in luck — New Line Cinema, the company that produced the original trilogy, has partnered with Amazon for the series.

The new show will not retell the same story found in the first three movies. Instead, it will be based on Tolkien’s surviving notes surrounding the creation original books.

It’s been reported that the first season will revolve around Aragorn when he was young and still haven’t learned of his Royal bloodline.

Sir Ian McKellan, who played Gandalf in the original movies, noted on a radio show that he would like to play the character again.

Rumors state that the budget for the series is 1 billion dollars.
